On Sunday, December 16, 2001, the Youth Department of Progressive Baptist Church presented "The Christmas Story." The program was a beautiful and inspiring tribute to the Birth of Jesus, beginning with the Angel Gabriel appearing to Mary to the Wise Men presenting gifts to Baby Jesus. The congregation rejoiced as the Youth portrayed Jesus as the "Reason for the Season." The Special day began when Youth member Kerry Simmons did an excellent job teaching the Sunday School Lesson "God's Promise to Zechariah." The Praise Team followed with several renditions of uplifting Christmas Carols. A special tribute was paid to Progressive's special friend, Lt. Frank Dawson of the Alexandria Police Department. The highlight of the Program was the sermon delivered by guest Minister, Bro. Arthur Allen. Bro. Allen is a retired Assistant Principal of Bolton High School. He was recently called into God's Ministry and was delivering his third sermon since being called. This man of God was unbelievable with his message. He delivered an awesome sermon which was very appropriate for the occasion. Bro. Allen's Text came from Luke 2:8-17. His Subject was "A Gift Worth Shouting About!" The sermon made us all realize God's gift of His Only Son, Jesus, is definitely worth shouting about. Bro. Allen's message was also something to shout about. The members of Progressive Baptist Church thank Bro. Allen for being with us on our special day. We thank our wonderful Pastor, Rev. C. J. Bell for inviting Bro. Allen to deliver the message and we hope Pastor Bell hears us when we shout, "We would love to have Bro. Allen back in the near future."
